Daniel McMullen serves as Chief Security Officer & Executive Vice President Risk Management and Investigative Services (RMIS) Division, Soteryx Corp.  The RMIS business line provides security consultation to clients across numerous security components to include professional security services; independent investigations; training; crime/loss prevention; and analysis.

Dan brings broad experience in risk mitigation, intelligence operations, and security executive leadership.  He possesses more than 28 years of involvement in criminal and counterterrorism investigations; intelligence collection and dissemination; and security operations.  He leads Soteryx’s efforts in management and consulting services for large and medium scale security projects in the United States and abroad for both government and private sectors.  Areas of focus include threat and vulnerability assessments; executive protection threat evaluations; development of countermeasure recommendations and security master plans; development of security standards, policies and procedures; and evaluation of corporate and government security programs including staffing, operations, systems, and procedures. 

After a 23-year career with the FBI, Dan retired in 2014 as a member of the Senior Executive Service.  During his years as a Special Agent, Dan held a wide range of operational and leadership positions to include serving as Special Agent in Charge for the State of Mississippi responsible for all criminal and national security investigative programs and administrative functions; Special Agent in Charge of the Criminal Division of the Los Angeles Field Office encompassing seven Southern California counties; Assistant Special Agent in Charge, New York Field Office; and Chief, Law Enforcement Programs Section, FBI Academy.  Dan holds a United States Intelligence Community Joint Duty Certification.

Immediately after his retirement from the FBI, Dan served as Assistant Director, Security Services Division, Port of Long Beach.  The Port of Long Beach is the 2nd busiest seaport in the United States and the 9th busiest port complex in the world.  Prior to coming to Soteryx, Dan served as the Director of Corporate Security for Southern California Edison.  Dan’s responsibilities included policy and strategy development, risk mitigation, physical security and executive protection.  During his tenure with SCE, he directed initiatives to redesign the Corporate Security organization to better align with an evolving risk environment while implementing controls for major Critical Infrastructure Protection regulations promulgated by the North American Electrical Reliability Corporation.

A native of Texas, Dan graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington and received an Army ROTC commission.  He served on active duty in the Army’s Combat Arms Branch and in “Operation Just Cause” in Panama.  He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.  Dan is an active member of the International Security Managers Association (ISMA) and the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) and is a graduate of the Wharton School/ASIS Program for Security Executives.
